The Earth

We can walk on the earth, we can as well do it on the work The Earth, although few people seem to like it. We can stay still on blocks of clay – they are big enough – but the heating has crack them, creating slopes and fragility. The real problem are the boxes filled with water: if you walk on this chessboard – even if you stay of the clay square – you'll be surrounded by water, and in the water there are fragments of glass. Glass and water are not the best place where to put a foot and fragile clay squares don't give the impression they can hold up our weight. To face a game we always need to have courage, but maybe this time we can stay next to the door and we can simply observe what the others do.

The work was shown in Cairo: in the exhibition For Jerusalem (2000), in the personal exhibition in Townhouse Gallery 2000 and in the Al Nitaq Festival 2001 (with the artist Martin McInally).
